2016 Estimated Peak Foliage on Moosehead Lake

The fall is a remarkably beautiful time on Moosehead Lake. The weather is cool and refreshing, the scent of pine is even more abundant, the weather is perfect for hiking, the animals are enjoying the fall temperatures and the foliage is outstanding! It is a great time for a peaceful kayak, moose sighting and savoring the outdoors before the winter covers us in a blanket of snow.

As one of the first areas in New England to experience foliage each year, leaves have already started to change color and occasionally flutter their way to the ground, yet the Farmers Almanac estimates peak foliage on Moosehead Lake to between October 1st- October 17th. Last year the peak day was marked as October 14th.  For more Maine foliage information, visit
