When standing at the Tomhegan Marina, there is a plethora of mountain peaks in your view. Have you ever wondered which mountains they are?
On clear days, from the marina you can see the tip of Mt. Katahdin. Big and Little Spencer. But the one that is closest, of the right just a tad is Little Kineo Mountain.
Little Kineo Mountain offers a wonderful and quick 2 mile round-trip trail well worth exploring during your next visit! Even though it is a little bit of a drive up the east side of the lake, nearly an hour past Lily Bay State Park, the vistas of Katahdin and both Big and Little Spencer from the summit will take your breath away. Make sure to continue past the summit to the scenic ledge overlook where you will have an unobstructed view of Mount Kineo, Big Moose Mountain and of course, Tomhegan! This hike, albeit short starts off gradually through the forest floor but then becomes a steep rock ledge climb before reaching the summit, pose to be challenging for younger children.
If the Little Kineo Mountain hike is part of your next adventure on Moosehead Lake, make sure to capture a photo, tag #tomhegan and share with us on social media!
